Sunflower Field Adventure
This summer has definitely been different in many ways for our family. Although we head off on a beach trip next week, our summer has been pretty stationary. Aside from going to the pool and spending tons of time in our backyard, there have been no long weekends away, no trips to the local amusement park, and very few dinners out.
That’s not to say that it hasn’t been a glorious summer, filled with sunshine, which is just what the doctor ordered after the long spring months and our time at home. I often find myself thanking God for sending such beautiful weather our way. It is certainly something we never take for granted, but especially after this year have been extra thankful for.
One of the reasons I love fall so much is that every weekend seems to be filled with fun activities: the pumpkin picking, running through corn mazes, heading to the apple orchard to find the perfect apples to use in all our fall baking…
As much as I love fall (and am so excited for our fall adventures), this year I just hope summer stays a little bit longer. Mostly because I, like all of you, am uncertain about what the school year will bring.
Last weekend, we set off on a family adventure and headed to one of our favorite places to race around a giant sunflower maze.
Smithmyer’s Farm is one of our favorite places (and home of the GIANT PUMPKIN story that is told in this blog post from last fall). In the summer they create the prettiest field of sunflowers and turn it into a fun maze that even comes along with a scavenger hunt!
Lilly had so much fun racing up and down the maze to find everything on our scavenger hunt list.
The flowers were in full bloom and it brought me so much joy to watch my child gleefully explore this beautiful field.
I hope you all have had the chance to experience a summer day like this one. Filled with family, love, sunshine and the simple things that mean the most.
It was the perfect way to spend a weekend day, and it reminded me that we need to have more adventures like this one before fall comes!
