Apple picking is one of our favorite family traditions. We have been taking Lilly since she was two and every year it gets more fun because she is a tad bit braver. This year was our favorite so far because Lilly didn’t hesitate at all to climb up the ladders to pick her favorite apples from the trees.
Every year I get messages on Instagram asking where we go apple picking, so I thought I would share our favorite places to go in the Western Pennsylvania and Pittsburgh areas.
Our Favorite Places to Go Apple Picking:
Norman’s Orchard:
Tarentum, PA
This is our absolute favorite place to go. It’s small, and the only thing you can do there is apple pick as opposed to other places that have all kinds of other fall things going on too. I LOVE the owners, they are the sweetest ever and are SO HELPFUL when showing you what trees are producing the best fruit at the time of your visit and provide ladders and boxes to pick the apples in. We love seeing them every year just as much as we love apple picking there.
Before you visit, be sure to check out their Facebook page because they post updates weekly/daily during apple picking season with helpful comments! Also, be sure to wear boots because they have a small stream that runs through the middle of their property making it muddy in the middle.
Soergel Orchards:
Wexford, PA
We love going here. We have apple picked at Soergel’s but we usually go for the fall festival that includes a small petting zoo, amazing pumpkins, a halloween themed kids town, and a pit stop at Arsenal Cider for some hard cider to enjoy as we try to keep up with our kiddo. The apple orchard is fun too but not the only thing you can do there.
Triple B Farms:
Monongahela, PA
Another fun family-friendly place that has it all including apple picking. If you are looking to cross everything off your fall bucket list at once, this is a great place to visit.
Boyer’s Orchard and Cider Mill:
New Paris, PA
You cannot apple pick at Boyer’s but you can buy amazing apples in their market as well as visit their turkeys, small pumpkin patch, and buy other amazing goods.

Apple Picking Memories:
My grandparents had a few apple trees in their back yard and I remember running up the hill to the tree line and grabbing a few apples when I would help my grandma in her garden. I failed to recognize the importance of picking a ripe apple back then and still have fond memories of eating a sour apple straight from the tree.
Somehow even the sour apples taste better when you pick them yourself!
