Family Christmas Card Photos 2024
What a whirlwind of a holiday season it has been. I have been meaning to share several different blog posts for some time now, and feel like I finally have the chance during the limbo week between Christmas and the New Year.
My annual ‘Family Christmas Card’ blog posts always seem to bring a lot of views, interest, and questions from my readers. I love to share an updated version to give you my most recent links and styling advice every year. Not to mention that selfishly, I always adore our family Christmas card photos (taken by Mariah Fisher Photography for eight years now) and love giving them a permanent spot on my blog.
The day we took pictures with Mariah of Mariah Fisher Photography, it was a high of 21 degrees. If you are in the local Pittsburgh area, do yourself a favor and book her immediately. My kids were not thrilled to be out in the frigid weather (especially in nice Christmas outfits) so Mariah worked around the cold and allowed us to hop into our car for some heated breaks to warm up between shots. I am definitely an anxious person when it comes to family photos and I love the calm that Mariah brings to each session. She is laid back and fun, and for the last eight years, I am blown away by what she captures in the midst of the chaos that is my family and our dog.
We live in a real-life Hallmark movie town that goes all out at Christmas. I grew up here as a little girl, and love that I get to relive our town’s magic through the eyes of my children. My family has created lots of traditions along the way, but one of our favorites is taking pictures in front of the quaint gazebo and town center that is fondly referred to as The Diamond.
For outfits, I go all out and festive. We typically take family photos in the spring or summer that are more neutral but I want our outfits to match the joy that we feel celebrating our Savior at Christmas. This year we did a bit of mixing old and new to create our family photo outfits. Because the weather was so cold we had to move to Plan B which required adding a few layers to our looks. I have linked what I could of ours below as well as created a list of some of my favorite places to shop for holiday-inspired outfits:
My Favorite Places to Shop for Holiday Style:
- Maisonette
- J.Crew and J.Crew Factory
- Vineyard Vines
- Tuckernuck
- Little English
- Southern Tide
- Janie & Jack
- Henry Duvall
- Elephantito
- Talbots
- Draper James
If I could give you a piece of advice about styling family photo outfits, it’s to pick a general color scheme with one to three colors. I like to throw in two prints as well that can be pulled together with the solid pieces worn. I usually opt for two different holiday plaids that pull from the same colorway to create a festive but not overdone family aesthetic. There have been a few years (mostly during my postpartum exhausted years) where I have had us in outfits that are too similar in color/the same plaid, and it ends up giving matching Christmas jammies vibes (which we are always down for, just not for our Christmas card).
Below are Christmas card photos from previous years for you to see the years I excelled and the years I made us a little too matchy-matchy:
Designing Our Family Christmas Card:
Most years I design my own card to match our color scheme (and Christmas plaid) on Canva. This year with such a short amount of time between Thanksgiving and Christmas, I opted to buy our cards from Minted. I love that they are using more and more independent designers for their cards now and found the prettiest one that had a gorgeous bow garland.
And that is a wrap (with a pretty red bow) on our Christmas card photos of 2024! A special thank you to Mariah Fisher Photography for always making my Christmas card dreams come true!
