Apple Picking in the Fall

Happy Monday, Lovelies!

One of my family’s favorite fall traditions is going on an apple-picking adventure. We have been going apple picking since Lilly was three years old, and every year it just gets better. Lilly now scales the ladders up to the top of trees to find the ripest apples and, not to be outdone by his big sister, Lane is now a pro apple retriever (and an even better apple eater).

Fall traditions are always so special to me. There is nothing sweeter than seeing your kids light up when they pick the perfect apple or pumpkin or carry you a bouquet of burnt orange, yellow-green, and maple-red leaves. I truly live for these moments and love that I am able to have such a big part in helping my kids make special childhood memories.

One of our very favorite places to go apple picking in the Pittsburgh area is Norman’s Orchard. This amazing orchard is family-owned and has been around for over 65 years! The owners are so kind and always so helpful to point you to the tartest or sweetest apples. Fall is never complete without an adventure to Norman’s and I was so thankful we were able to squeeze in a visit this year.

Lilly has gone from a salty three-year-old with the best cheeks you have ever seen to a smart and silly 9-year-old over the years and this year’s apple bounty can mostly be attributed to her apple-picking skills.

Lane loved all the action but would rather sit at the bottom of the ladder and eat the apples his sister picks for now and honestly, I like it better that way since he typically has a knack for the dangerous things in life.

If you ever get the chance to take your family apple picking in the fall, be sure to take it! This is hands-down one of our favorite fall traditions, and weeks later I am still making apple crisp, apple muffins, and apple butter with our bounty of apples. Lilly has requested we give apple pie a try, so I think we are going to experiment with recipes this weekend!
