My Green Smoothie Recipe

Happy Monday, Lovelies!

I have been receiving tons of questions and requests about some of my favorite recipes lately, so I thought I would start sharing more of them on the blog! One of my most-requested recipes is my “Green Smoothie Recipe”.

Before I share the exact recipe, I thought I would share why I put each ingredient in my “Green Smoothie Recipe” to increase the health benefits as well as make it taste like you are drinking a tropical beverage while relaxing on an island somewhere…a mom can dream…right!?

Smoothie Ingredients:

Spinach:

Spinach is one of the biggest plant-sources of iron. Many people are low iron, so incorporating spinach into a smoothie or a salad is a great way to increase your energy. Spinach is also a great source of vitamin B2 and B6 which help your cells recover/produce energy, folate, and manganese. All important vitamins for overall wellness.

Cucumber:

Cucumbers are great sources of potassium and magnesium. They also aid in hydration. I recently read an article that eating cucumbers may possibly help your body hydrate than drinking 16 oz. of water. They also are said to help manage blood sugar levels.

Pineapple:

Pineapples act as a scrub brush and actually clean out your gut as they release enzymes while you digest them. They are high in vitamins C and manganese and are considered just as great for workout/electrolyte recovery as bananas are.

Banana:

These easy to digest fruits are rich in potassium, are great ways to replace nutrients you lost during exercise, and help aid in digestion!

Lime Juice:

Limes are great for reducing inflammation. Are said to help improve skin texture and acne issues. They are also high in vitamins A, B, C, and D!

Coconut Milk (Could Sub Coconut Water):

Coconuts contain a healthy lipid called lauric acid that is said to have anti-microbial and anti-inflammatory properties that can help fight against a number of diseases and boost immunity.

Blender Bombs:

When looking to transition my diet to more of a plant-based diet, I came across Blender Bombs. They are little “nuggets” filled with nutrition and healthy ingredients like raw honey, chia seeds, flax seeds, bee pollen, dates, nuts…you name it. All of their products are gluten-free, dairy-free, soy-free, VEGAN, and only naturally sweetened. I love popping one of these into my smoothie!

Vital Proteins Collagen Powder:

If you read my recent blog post about Fitness and Wellness Finds, I mentioned how whey protein really does not agree with me. When looking for a way to increase my protein intake and decrease my inflammation, I found Vital Proteins, and have never looked back. Collagen is so good for you for so many reasons. It aids in recovery, helps lubricate your joints, and we all pray it gives our skin some extra elasticity. I use the unflavored collagen peptides in so many things from my morning coffee to putting it in my smoothies!
