Apple Picking
Happy Harvest Season!
There is something so special about fall. The vibrant colors everywhere, the cooler mornings and evenings but sun-filled days, the bounty of crops that have finally ripened after months of planning and work.
As a kid, I always thought summer was the best season. No school, longer days filled with trips to the pool or a friend’s house. Now as an adult, I find there are parts of each season that I love and appreciate. Fall might possibly be my favorite.
Fall family traditions top my list of things I look forward to, and one of my family’s favorites is apple picking.
My grandparents had a few apple trees in their back yard and I remember running up the hill to the tree line and grabbing a few apples when I would help my grandma in her garden. I failed to recognize the importance of picking a ripe apple back then and still have fond memories of eating a sour apple straight from the tree.
I have become a better judge of which apples to pick, but I promise that even if you don’t find a perfect apple, it still tastes better when you pick it yourself.
When Lilly was three, Alex and I searched for the perfect apple orchard within driving distance from our house and came across Norman’s Orchard. It’s quaint, quiet and isn’t filled with the fall festivals that some of the other orchards in the area are.
I am always down for a fun fall festival, but we fell in love with the small orchard and the kind owners who are so helpful and knowledgable.
We filled our baskets to the brim with tart apples and came home that evening and made caramel apples with a few of our neighborhood friends. It was a great day and one that I hope we all remember forever.
Later this week I will be sharing my family’s fall bucket list! What are some of your favorite things to do in the fall?
xoxo,
Kalyn
