Coffee with Kalyn
Happy Friday, Lovelies!
I’ll let you in on a secret. I am one of those people who actually LIKES to drink their coffee black. I know, I know, call me crazy. There used to be a time I would put a splash of milk in my coffee.
There was also a time before that you would find me ordering a mocha or something with thousands of grams of sugar, but in college after gaining (more than) the freshman fifteen, I decided to give all of that sugar up.
As a mom, I drink it black partially out of necessity but mostly because I think that any other way waters down the taste of it.
Why am I telling you any of this? Because a few weeks ago, I thought about what I wanted to add to the blog, and I felt like I needed to share more about my daily life and little pieces of what makes me…ME!
So here I am, the crazy blogger who likes to drink her coffee black. Who has to keep her cup far out of reach from her dog because her dog thinks she likes black coffee too.
Let’s just dive right in with life in the present moment.
Life Lately:
Lilly started school the first week of September and already we have been sick twice. I used to think I had a strong immune system but then I became a mom. So from now until May, you will find me next to the box of tissues!
I still work from home for Stitch Fix. A lot of people think it’s a multi-level marketing job but, I am a part-time employee who gets paid hourly. I get to style amazing women and kids and full-time mother at the same time. Sometimes it works perfectly and other times (like today) the Wifi decides not to work, my kid refuses to nap, something important falls into the toilet, and life goes on.
In the evenings, I teach a daily boot camp class. I love it. I get to workout with my favorite people. They make fun of me because sometimes after class, I sit in my car for thirty minutes doing work on my phone because it’s one of the few moments a day that I am actually alone. Like…completely alone.
Mom Life Essentials:
Lilly just entered her last year of preschool, so I have really been trying to make sure she is ready for Kindergarten next year. After school every day, she comes home and we do a few pages of this workbook, then practice tracing and letters/numbers with this workbook. I will link them below.
Lilly has also been loving the Story Time podcast. We started listening to it out of desperation on a long car ride home from the beach, but now we listen to a story on our way to/from school every day. I love it just as much as she does!
Another recent favorite has been all of The Berenstain Bear books. I loved reading these books growing up and have had so much fun reading them with Lilly. The message and virtues of each book are so awesome and really have helped Lilly think more compassionately.
Weekly Inspiration:
Two years ago, when I started my blog, I knew I wanted to be raw, real and authentically me.
I have had to say no to things to put in more work. I have had to prioritize and organize my life in a way that allows me to first, mother my daughter and love her fiercely, maintain a healthy home life, work my day job, and squeeze in my blog somewhere in between.
It isn’t something that is always easy, but this blog has been a dream and passion of mine since college, and I refuse to give up this piece of me that brings so much happiness to my soul.
I believe that as a mother, it is important to find something you are passionate about and chase after it. Sure, sometimes it gets put on the backburner, but I know for me, that after I have spent some time on the blog in the evenings after Lilly is asleep, I wake up in the mornings refreshed, happy and ready to take on the world.
Kalyn Out:
So now that I have spilled my cup of black coffee for the week (unless it’s Friday then I go for a Dirty Chai Tea Latte), it’s time for me to sign-off.
If you ever have any questions for me, or would like for me to share something specific on the blog, please don’t hesitate to e-mail me or message me on Instagram or Facebook!
Have a great weekend, lovelies!
xoxo,
Kalyn
