Apple Picking

Happy First Day of Fall!

I’m always sad to see summer go, but there is something about fall that renews my soul. I love the crisp mornings, the weekends spent outside with family, exploring new pumpkin patches, finding the perfect spots to see the fall leaves. There is just so much to do in the fall and I always feel like I try to fit as much in as possible because I know winter is close behind.

A family favorite fall activity is apple picking. They just taste better when you pick them yourself. We went for the first time of the year last weekend, and Lilly is already asking when we are going again.

I get asked frequently where we go to pick apples, so I am sharing a few favorites with you.

  • Norman’s Orchard: Tarentum, PA (where these pictures are taken): It’s quaint, the only attraction is picking your own apples which I love. There aren’t a ton of crowds, and the orchard is huge! They are open until the last weekend in October.
  • Triple B Farm: Monongahela, PA This is such a cute spot. It is more fall festival oriented, so if you are looking to enjoy some fall fun, pick apples and pumpkins, this is a great spot for you and your family.
  • Soergel’s Orchard: Wexford, PA This place is adorable. They have a great harvest schedule and pick your own map which makes it easy to decide when you want to visit. They also have some great produce to pick from!

A few others that we love that you can buy local apples but not pick them:

  • Boyer’s Orchards: New Paris, PA I love this spot. In October they have pumpkins set up outside, but the apples are some of my favorite. They have all of their produce organized into these amazing cartons that you can pick out of. If you are looking for great apples without the work of picking them, this place is a must!
  • Ridgetop Orchards: Fishertown, PA If you are visiting Bedford County this fall, stop here on your way home. It’s a beautiful spot to grab some fresh produce. I love their quaint little porch store!

Apple picking is perfect for little ones. Lilly takes such pride in picking her own apples.
